EAVESTROUGHS OTTAWA & YOUR HOME
Eavestroughs are the gutter that hangs from the roof edge, catching rain as it washes down to redirect it to a dedicated drain pipe. Open eaves are the most common type of eavestrough installation Ottawa used by us.
Eavestroughs prevent water from dripping and draining down the exterior of your walls. Without eaves, rain water would wash down, causing dampness in your home and giving mould or wet rot the ideal environment to grow. It also keeps water out of your foundation, off sensitive soil and away from high traffic areas. While they may seem inconsequential, in Ottawa eavestroughs play a large part in extending the life of your home and preventing soil erosion.
Here at Kovar Contracting, Ottawa we offer 5” 32 gauge seamless aluminum eavestroughs in Ottawa with a wide selection of colours. 5” is the standard width of trough for residential Ottawa homes. We use only the best aluminum sourced from Canadian suppliers and all of our corners are hand-mitred. Seamless eavestroughs Ottawa ensure that there are no seams in the middle of the eaves that may eventually leak. For the corners, we believe that hand-mitred lasts longer and looks better than the more common box or strip options.
When you contact us for your project, we will come inspect your current eaves, soffit and fascia to determine if repair or replacement is required. For new homes Ottawa, we will do the full installation of soffit, fascia and eavestrough in Ottawa.
We form your eaves on-site and mount them on near-invisible heavy-duty hangers that can hold a 200 lb man without any damage. Leaf guards are optional, though recommended. We use T-Rex Gutter Guard Systems.

EAVESTROUGHS IN OTTAWA FAQS
How do I know my eavestroughs Ottawa are due for a repair or replacement?
The first indicator is age – if your eaves are over 20 years old, then they definitely need to be replaced. The second indicator is material – vinyl and plastic eaves have a shorter lifespan than aluminum. The final indicator is, of course, leaking – if your eaves are leaking at the joints or anywhere really, then you should contact us to see if a repair or replacement will be needed.
You may also want to replace your eaves if you notice that they can’t handle your average rainfall. Next time there’s a storm, check your eavestrough to see if the water is draining through them, or flooding over. If there is flooding, you will need a wider eavestrough.
Why is it important to keep eavestroughs clear of debris?
There are several reasons to clear debris from your Ottawa eavestroughs:
- the rotting foliage and debris creates an ideal environment for weeds to grow in your eaves;
- water won’t be able to drain properly and instead will flood over the eaves; and
- it backs up your eavestrough system in Ottawa, forcing water into the areas of your home that have been weakened by wear, tear and age (example, it floods through your fascia board and into your attic. From there, it drips into your bedroom.)
Do you offer different types of eavestroughs?
We offer different colours but, for the most part, all of our eavestroughs in Ottawa look the same.
Can I buy my eavestroughs, hangers and leaf guards elsewhere and hire Kover Contracting for the installation only?
We do not recommend this. When we prepare eavestroughs, hangers, leaf guards and, well, anything for your roofing project, we can guarantee the materials, craftsmanship and installation. If you purchase eavestroughs from elsewhere, we’re not able to offer you the manufacturer’s non-prorated extended warranty. In order to make sure you’re getting the best price the market can provide without having to purchase from outside suppliers, we guarantee price match and only use the best, time-tested products for your job.
Should I replace my fascia and soffit at the same time as my eavestroughs Ottawa?
Before we start installing your new eavestroughs Ottawa, we will examine the fascia to ensure that it is sturdy enough to hold the eavestrough system. At that point, we will know if it is necessary to replace or just patch up the fascia. That being said, fascia replacement doesn’t always happen during eavestrough installation Ottawa – it’s done on a case by case basis since it’s nearly impossible to fix or replace fascia after eavestroughs have been installed.
Soffits are different. We often suggest changing the soffit for attic intake ventilation. Cosmetic reasons are very popular as well, most commonly for a colour change. Since soffits are under the eaves, it is easy to replace them after the eavestroughs in Ottawa have been installed. So the two don’t have to be replaced at the same time, especially not if the soffits are in good condition.
Do you have any suggestions to prevent ice damming due to eavestrough?
Actually, eavestroughs don’t cause ice damming. Poor insulation and poor ventilation does. This causes your attic temperature to rise above the outside temperature, making snow melt off the roof. This melting snow is trapped in the eavestrough, away from the heat of the attic, where it then freezes in the eaves. When you add insulation, you limit the heat that escapes the home. When you add soffit and roof ventilation, you remove any heat that does escape the home.
This winter I removed downspouts you installed last fall as ice was jamming in them. Now that Spring is here I can’t get them back on. Can I call you for help?
Of course! Though it should be noted that re-installation is not included in our eavestroughing packages. That being said, you should never have to remove the trough that we install – if ice is jamming in them, there is an underlying cause that should be addressed.
Can I purchase a leaf guard at my local store and ask you to install it? Will I save money that way? Are the products comparable?
You can, if you’d like, but we don’t suggest it. There is no guarantee a store-bought leaf guard will fit our troughs. You may end up paying more for the leaf guard that what we provide. Finally, we can’t provide a warranty on client-supplied materials.
We have researched and tested a wide variety of leaf guards. We suggest T-Rex simply because it does the best job. There are pros and cons for all gutter guard products, but this one has caused the least headaches over all.
